Healing Hands

The Magic is
in the Hands

Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to my hands-on approach to therapy – using the power of skilled hands to assess, treat and deliver care that helps transform patients’ lives. For me, the magic is in the hands.

In terms of our overall physical and mental wellbeing, the health of the Fascia (“Fash-sha”) – the web of connective tissue that surrounds your muscles and organs – has long been overlooked or undervalued.  Now a growing body of research suggests that it is far more important than we ever realised to tackling many common yet hard-to-treat conditions from immune dysfunction to chronic pain.

Move Well, Live Well

Many conditions are linked to the Fascia, which becomes more prone to dysfunction with age: sore muscles, tendons and ligaments; chronic back and neck pain; plantar fasciitis; frozen shoulder; fibromyalgia; or just “feeling constantly stiff”.

Soft Tissue Therapy (including Myofascial Release Massage) essentially helps heal the Fascia through sustained, gentle hands-on therapy. Combined with sleep, hydration and suitable recovery, it helps alleviate muscle soreness, encouraging the muscle tissues to offload and unwind.

Whether to support everyday health or active involvement in sports, I take a holistic approach to understand your needs to develop a personalised treatment plan – tapping into some of the latest wellbeing insights, taking a total lifestyle approach to go beyond just manual therapy.

Fascia 101

A bit more about the Fascia, sometimes described as “the matrix inside you” or “the vital organ you never knew you had”.

The Fascia is a delicate, web-like tissue that envelops and connects every structure in our bodies – from the skin, nerves and bones to the deep cells in our muscles and organs. In short, it’s everywhere, and it does a lot.

Fascia contains collagen cells, stores water, and has adhesives, resulting in elasticity and reducing friction between tissue surfaces. When the Fascia functions properly and flexibly, the whole body works better, moves faster, and feels better. Conversely, tight or restricted Fascia can trigger pain and stiffness, limiting mobility.

As well as addressing pain, new studies reveal that a healthy Fascia helps build immunity and promotes longevity, resilience and quality of life.

Restoring and maintaining Fascia health depends on a holistic approach combining manual therapy such as soft tissue massage, stretching and foam rolling with self-care and a wellbeing lifestyle that might include yoga, a healthy diet and, not least, adequate sleep.
